Caoimhe O’Regan

Artistic representations of the Moroccan capital’s urban landscapes

In this collection of original artwork, Caoimhe O’Regan presents her interpretation of the urban landscapes and colours of Rabat. Caoimhe’s artwork is not only inspired by the winding streets and beautiful light of Rabat, but some of her inspiration is also drawn from the painting techniques of local Moroccan artists, from whom Caoimhe took some lessons while she was in Rabat. You can see these paintings along with Caoimhe’s descriptions of them below.

Udayas (الوداية)

This is a painting of a photo I took in Oudayas, Rabat. The scene depicts the colours of the kasbah, and of the specific area of the city which is completely painted blue.

Medium: watercolors.

Chorouk (شروق), sunrise

Many artists in the Moroccan souks sold paintings similar to this one, and I was inspired by their style. One of the artists taught me how he incorporated the colours of the famous Moroccan sunset into his painting and I took my inspiration directly from his lesson. This is the result.

Medium: pastels.

Ghoroub (غروب), sunset

This painting is inspired by the work of the painters in the Rabat souk. I painted a night scene as I was enchanted by the beauty and mysteriousness of Rabat’s dusk during my time there.

Medium: acrylic paint and oil pastels.
